Step 4: After chilling, divide the mixture into 6 equal portions, then shape each one into a small patty, about ½ an inch to 1 inch thick.

Step 5: Heat butter or oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 5 – 7 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.

Is canned salmon healthy?

If you're looking for an easy way to add more heart healthy omega-3 fats to your diet, then canned salmon is a great option!

Not to mention, salmon is also a good source of protein, plus it's naturally carb-free. It's a powerhouse ingredient for a low carb way of eating.

And you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that canned salmon is just as healthy as fresh salmon! The canning process doesn't remove any of the nutrients or degrade the fish.

Just be sure to check the label to make sure the salmon is wild-caught. Most canned salmon is, but it's always best to double-check.

Storage

Want to prep the patty mixture ahead of time? No problem! You can mix together the ingredients, then store the mixture for a few hours in the refrigerator until you're ready to cook the salmon cakes.

If you have leftover cooked patties, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They should be enjoyed within 3 days or so.
